Anubhava Mental Health offers individual therapy for ages 18+. Currently, all services are provided via telehealth to clients located in Minnesota or Michigan. Not every person will be best served by telehealth therapy. Exploration around whether telehealth is an appropriate medium for services will be a part of initial consultation/beginning of therapy.
Areas of focus include: Grief & loss, life adjustments, anxiety, depression, trauma (complex, chronic, and acute/single-event), attachment difficulties, postpartum mental health, and identity exploration (racial, sexual, relational, and more).
What to Expect
Therapy begins with an intake session. This meeting is to discuss hopes for future, examine current dilemmas or difficulties, further explore whether I am a provider well suited to support you, and begin to identify the general course of therapy (i.e. Duration, specific approaches). The first session is also when confidentiality and expectations are discussed. The intake session is generally 60 mins and subsequent sessions are typically 50-60 mins.
Ongoing therapy sessions include discussion of things that have come up in between meetings, continuing to deepen trust/rapport together, and integration of specific modalities/approaches as appropriate or relevant to your hopes for change.
The duration of therapy is dependent on many things. You are always welcome to end or ask for a change in the therapeutic relationship (i.e. Giving feedback, looking for another provider, exploring whether another form of support/care is needed). For some, therapy is on-going to help maintain stability & support. For others, therapy can be shorter term and focused on achieving specific goals or solutions. Initial expectations for the duration of therapy— and how to know when our work together has come to an end— will be part of intake as well as a recurring area for check-in.
If you are interested in individual therapy you can request an initial consult. This is a free 15-20 minute opportunity to ask questions, discuss what’s bringing you to therapy, and get more info on whether we might be a good fit.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a comprehensive psychotherapy that can be quick and effective in alleviating distress from traumatic or distressing life events, as well as many other difficulties. You can learn more about EMDR here. These sessions are 60 mins in length and the process is more structured than talk therapy. EMDR may not be the best fit for everyone, and assessment/screening of whether it may be an appropriate course of treatment is the first step in exploring this option.
EMDR differs from talk therapy in a number of ways. In talk therapy, verbal dialogue with the therapist is used to discuss presenting concerns and experiences. This is an important and often effective way to bring awareness to emotions/sensations, increase insight, and build self-compassion. EMDR uses a combination of talking, body-focused resourcing, and bilateral stimulation to link together ways that experiences may be stored in the body: Sensations, thoughts, memories, images, emotions, and so on. EMDR does not require a person to talk through the narrative details of distressing events unlike trauma re-processing in talk therapy. It can be a helpful way to integrate past experiences and enhance connection & self-regulation.
Individuals may choose to receive EMDR from a trained therapist and then resume talk therapy with their already established therapist, or receive EMDR & talk therapy from the same provider.
Alex was trained in EMDR through the Midwest Center for EMDR Training, an EMDRIA approved training provider.
